Subduction Erosion Revealed by Late Mesozoic Magmatism in the Gangdese Arc, South Tibet

چکیده

Subduction of oceanic lithosphere can cause crustal growth and destruction, but whether this balancing act is common in a single fossil convergent system has been unclear. Here we report geochronologic-geochemical-isotopic data on Mesozoic igneous rocks the central-eastern Gangdese arc. Our results reveal: (a) A coupling magmatic arc migration toward continent interior with marked incompatible enrichment sub-arc mantle magma sources; (b) numerous Late Cretaceous adakites were generated via combined partial melting both eroded forearc crust debris subducted crust; (c) truncation extremely short arc-suture distance. work demonstrates that although there was significant vertical juvenile throughout during Mesozoic, large amount continental returned back into through lateral subduction erosion at same time. This study provides important insights long-term material recycling Earth.

Trace elements in clinopyroxenes from Aleutian xenoliths: Implications for primitive subduction magmatism in an island arc

Trace element abundances in clinopyroxene (cpx) from cumulate xenoliths are used to characterize the nature of primitive magma-forming processes beneath the Aleutian island arc. Clinopyroxenes from deformed mafic and ultramafic xenoliths hosted in a Neogene-age mafic sill from Kanaga Island have widely varying trace element abundances (Sr=8–32, Y=2–64, Zr=2–38, Nd=0.65–16 ppm) that are generall...

PETROGENESIS AND ORIGIN OF THE CHENAR GRANITOID STOCK, NW OF KERMAN, IRAN: EVIDENCE OF NEOTETHYS SUBDUCTION RELATED ARC MAGMATISM

The lower to middle Miocene Chenar granitoid stock, a part of Central Iranian volcanic belt, is intruded into Eocene volcano-sedimentary complex in northwestern Kerman in south Central Iran. The Chenar granitoid stock consists mainly of coarse to medium grain granodiorite and monzogranite with subordinate tonalite and syenogranite. Alkali granites as aplitic veins and quartz dioritic dykes freq...

Late Quaternary faulting in the Sevier Desert driven by magmatism

Seismic hazard in continental rifts varies as a function of strain accommodation by tectonic or magmatic processes. The nature of faulting in the Sevier Desert, located in eastern Basin and Range of central Utah, and how this faulting relates to the Sevier Desert Detachment low-angle normal fault, have been debated for nearly four decades. Here, we show that the geodetic signal of extension acr...
